Room Quick Write

My room at home is very clean and organized. All of my friends walk in there and are amazed at how clean I manage to keep it. I make my bed every morning and make sure everything is in place before I leave. My stuff has a place where it goes, for example my backpack always sits slanted against the wall next to my door.

Great Black and White Photographers Pt. 3

Minor White

1. What first caught my eye when looking at his photography was the scenery. The simplicity of the photos is very plain but he does it so well. I think what made me choose them was the fact that I love photography with scenery and simplicity. Only few can impress me with such strategy and Minor White is one of them.

I see the repetition of the trees and the continuous line the road makes. The shadows of the trees that reflect onto the road make it look really nice. Also the color of the trees, grass, and clouds look the same which makes the other colors really pop out. For example the road, mountains, sky, and the tree bark.
I smell fresh cut grass or the smell of the outdoors. I can smell the pavement that heats up against the sun. The smell of fresh wind that the clouds create on this day.
I hear the wind blowing against the trees. The sound of nothingness as I stand out here in the middle of nowhere. I hear my thoughts perfectly in this tranquil scenery of nature.
I taste the cool wind and the moist air on this sunny day. I can sort of taste the fresh cut grass in the air.
I feel peace and calm in this area. Very quiet; makes me feel secure and away from everything else in the world. I feel as if nature is staring right back at me as I stare into it. I feel sleepy as if I can just lay here and sleep away the days.

I see holes in the wall as if created by shots of a gun. The kid running away with what seems like a piece of cloth in his hand. The blurriness of the moving kid shows that he is running away for some reason.
I smell wet cement in this old warehouse. The sweat on my neck on this hot sunny day.
I hear the footsteps of the kid as he paces away further up the street. I can hear the cloth flapping in the wind as it follows the running child. I can hear the creaking of the old warehouse as it has aged over the years.
I taste the warm air and the heat of the sun. I can taste the dirt of the floor as the kid ran by kicking up particles of the dirt.
I feel almost in danger. Why is the kid running? Is there someone chasing him? Or is he simply running home?

3. I feel the best way of showing this photographer to others is by a simple power point. The simplicity of this will show the main idea. For example, like the photographer Nick Brandt. His work was shown in a power point with nothing but his work and the main idea really stuck with me.

Mural Project Preview

1. What theme could you use here at school to make your own mural that tells a unique Akins story?
I think the best theme would be integration. The combination of all ethnic groups is very unique compared to other schools in the district.

2. Why is this theme worth devoting time time and effort to capture? Why would other students care about this theme?
I think other students would care because its a very interesting topic and maybe some might learn something new because of this.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using a phone camera to do this project?
The advantage would probably be that with the phone camera we would be able to quickly take and delete pictures. The disadvantages would include things like, horrible quality, people might think we're creeps for using our personal phones, it would make them uncomfortable.

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using an SLR camera to do this project?
The advantages would be much higher quality pictures and way more detailed. The disadvantage would include something like shyness of the students. When most students see photographers with cameras walking around taking pictures, most don't want to be included because they're shy or think they will look bad.

5. Should we use phones or SLR cameras for this project? Why?
We should use SLR cameras because of the more detail and quality it has compared to the camera.

Africa

I personally loved his shoot. The black and white give the nature of wild animals more of a nicer touch. He managed to capture the way these wild animals behave very well.
This one is my favorite because it kind of shows the soft side of such a dangerous animal. The lion is more of a symbol of power and here he seems to let down his strength to this lioness.
I think this shows a good example of contrast in a different way. The color is the same but the sizes of the animals are very different. The lion looks down upon the lioness and is clearly bigger than her.

1. He uses a Pentax 67II with only two lenses.
2. Nick fell in love with the animals of East Africa and he knew the only way to express his love was through photography.
3. He wants to reveal the true personality of wild animals.
4. "You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in close."

Fire Quickwrite

I think that this man is jumping over a fire during what seems like a riot. As the fire burned, the cameraman captured a man jumping over burning objects made of paper, boxes, and trash.

New Six Weeks

Out of this new six weeks I would like to take more pictures and edit them with photo shop. Also another thing I would like is to actually learn how to use photo shop.

Selfie Quick Write

I like this picture because of the surrounding background. It's ironic that she is able to do this during prayer in one of the most strict religions in the world. This is a good example of simplicity because the subject is directly in the center. Also another composition is repetition because of the all the bodies being on the floor during prayer. Almost as if she's standing in a sea of people.

Academics and Community Service

1. I picked this photo because of the awesome detail it captures of the paint.
2. I think this displays Simplicity very well because of the paint splatter being the center of the attention and the way it actually is in the center.

1. I think I could take pictures like this in any classroom at Akins because most of them include classes where the students both learn and have a good time learning.
2. I would like to visit my English Teacher's classroom Mrs. Bagnall because she is a very serious teacher and every one in her class is always doing their work and focus very well.
3. As the photographer I will try to just blend into the background and let the natural vibe of the classroom be captured.

Academics Shoot Preview

Best Story:

I think this is the Best Story because they're doing something very kind. I don't hear a lot of schools actually doing this so it caught my attention.

Emotion:

I think this is the best Emotion because the students are gathered around what seems like a memorial perhaps? The fact that they're also holding hands shows emotion as well.

Fills the Frame:

I think this Fills the Frame the best because of how the photo captures mainly the students picking up what seems to be trash. The building behind them and then the bushes act as layers leading to the main center of the photo.
