PHOTO COMPOSITION:
Balance This shows a good example of balance because of the equal number of rings that is in the center of the image. The moon and the rings are right in the center which gives off the balance feel because neither side has more rings than the other.

Leading Lines and Repetition  This shows a good example of leading lines because of the two clear lines that is created by the rows of people. Its also a good example of Repetition because of how its seems to be a never ending number of people on both sides. You just see head after head as they cheer on the dog running down the road.
Rule of Thirds This shows a good example of Rule of Thirds because the subject is put onto the left side where a light is located on the top left corner and it draws attention to the subject on the left rather than the center. The location of the light is perfect for Rule of Thirds because it really draws your attention away from the center into the top left corner.
Rule of Thirds and Leading Lines This shows a good example of rule of thirds as well because the subject is a person walking along this forest around the bottom right hand side. The comparison of the size of the forest and the person really make the rule of thirds pop out because the vast size of the forest make the person look so small which captures your attention. This is also a good example of leading lines because of the line created by the path he is walking on. The line starts at the bottom and it goes into the background of the never ending forest.

Self Portraits and Portraits Preview

Use Both Auto and Manual Focus

Get Closer

Use your imagination

Environmental:

I liked these because of the one color that really pops out. Like its either the red or the pink but they both dominate in each photo.

Casual:

I liked these because THEY ARE PRETTY. I liked these because of the way the sun reflects on their light colored hair.

Formal:

I liked these because the detail is awesome.

Photography Self Portrait:

I liked these because they are unique. They show that you can do anything with these portraits.

My plan for this assignment is to definitely try shooting both in manual and auto. I plan to shoot my self walking towards my car in the empty parking lot. I will park my car in an angle to were it faces the camera but I will be walking towards it so my back will face the camera. I think the car and I being the only two objects will make the picture look cooler.

Brave Quick Write

I guess the most recent incident on being "brave" would be about three weeks ago when I drove to New Mexico by my self. I drove for 12 hours only stopping for gas or to use the restroom. I left my house at around two in the morning and once you get out of Austin you start driving on these long roads with no lights. The only light visible 100 ft in any direction is the moon and the headlights of my car. The thought of my car breaking down out there in the dark is legitimately terrifying. All alone with no signal on your phone.

Academics Photo Shoot

Framing
I followed this rule pretty well because of the way his head fits on the computer screen as if it is framed.
The subject is his head in front of the computer monitor.
It should be clear that this is framing because of how obvious the frame is around his head.
I could have gotten a closer shot to better define the frame.

Simplicity
I followed this rule pretty well because of the simple phone on the table.
The subject is the phone on the plain white table.
The phone is the only thing you see so the subject is very clear.
I could have moved the computer mouse wire away to make the phone the only thing in the whole picture.

 Lines
I followed this rule perfectly because of the lines on the Air Conditioner were the perfect example of lines.
The subject is the lines on the AC.
The lines really pop out and its the first thing you see so the subject should be easily seen.
I could have focused a little more to get a clear shot of the lines.

Rule of Thirds
I followed this rule very well because of the way I took the picture of the sphere in a very good position for rule of thirds.
The subject is the sphere in the corner.
The sphere is clearly in one of the corners of the image which guides the viewers attention to that corner.
I could have chosen another sphere with less things in the center to better capture the attention to the top right corner.

Balance
I followed this rule pretty well because of the amount of computers and desks on both sides.
The subject is the way the classroom is organized and how the sides balance each other out.
The computers and desks are the first thing you see so you can clearly see how its balanced.
I could have asked the girl to move from the center so I could get an even better example of balance.

Avoiding Mergers
I followed this rule pretty well because of the way I avoided taking the picture of his shirt combined with the red poster in the background.
The subject is shown sitting down working on his computer but the poster in the background matches his shirt, this is where I had to move at a better angle to avoid mixing them together.
I could have tried to focus on the poster a bit more to really show the how similar the colors are.

Room Quick Write

My room at home is very clean and organized. All of my friends walk in there and are amazed at how clean I manage to keep it. I make my bed every morning and make sure everything is in place before I leave. My stuff has a place where it goes, for example my backpack always sits slanted against the wall next to my door.

Great Black and White Photographers Pt. 3

Minor White

1. What first caught my eye when looking at his photography was the scenery. The simplicity of the photos is very plain but he does it so well. I think what made me choose them was the fact that I love photography with scenery and simplicity. Only few can impress me with such strategy and Minor White is one of them.

I see the repetition of the trees and the continuous line the road makes. The shadows of the trees that reflect onto the road make it look really nice. Also the color of the trees, grass, and clouds look the same which makes the other colors really pop out. For example the road, mountains, sky, and the tree bark.
I smell fresh cut grass or the smell of the outdoors. I can smell the pavement that heats up against the sun. The smell of fresh wind that the clouds create on this day.
I hear the wind blowing against the trees. The sound of nothingness as I stand out here in the middle of nowhere. I hear my thoughts perfectly in this tranquil scenery of nature.
I taste the cool wind and the moist air on this sunny day. I can sort of taste the fresh cut grass in the air.
I feel peace and calm in this area. Very quiet; makes me feel secure and away from everything else in the world. I feel as if nature is staring right back at me as I stare into it. I feel sleepy as if I can just lay here and sleep away the days.

I see holes in the wall as if created by shots of a gun. The kid running away with what seems like a piece of cloth in his hand. The blurriness of the moving kid shows that he is running away for some reason.
I smell wet cement in this old warehouse. The sweat on my neck on this hot sunny day.
I hear the footsteps of the kid as he paces away further up the street. I can hear the cloth flapping in the wind as it follows the running child. I can hear the creaking of the old warehouse as it has aged over the years.
I taste the warm air and the heat of the sun. I can taste the dirt of the floor as the kid ran by kicking up particles of the dirt.
I feel almost in danger. Why is the kid running? Is there someone chasing him? Or is he simply running home?

3. I feel the best way of showing this photographer to others is by a simple power point. The simplicity of this will show the main idea. For example, like the photographer Nick Brandt. His work was shown in a power point with nothing but his work and the main idea really stuck with me.

Mural Project Preview

1. What theme could you use here at school to make your own mural that tells a unique Akins story?
I think the best theme would be integration. The combination of all ethnic groups is very unique compared to other schools in the district.

2. Why is this theme worth devoting time time and effort to capture? Why would other students care about this theme?
I think other students would care because its a very interesting topic and maybe some might learn something new because of this.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using a phone camera to do this project?
The advantage would probably be that with the phone camera we would be able to quickly take and delete pictures. The disadvantages would include things like, horrible quality, people might think we're creeps for using our personal phones, it would make them uncomfortable.

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using an SLR camera to do this project?
The advantages would be much higher quality pictures and way more detailed. The disadvantage would include something like shyness of the students. When most students see photographers with cameras walking around taking pictures, most don't want to be included because they're shy or think they will look bad.

5. Should we use phones or SLR cameras for this project? Why?
We should use SLR cameras because of the more detail and quality it has compared to the camera.

Africa

I personally loved his shoot. The black and white give the nature of wild animals more of a nicer touch. He managed to capture the way these wild animals behave very well.
This one is my favorite because it kind of shows the soft side of such a dangerous animal. The lion is more of a symbol of power and here he seems to let down his strength to this lioness.
I think this shows a good example of contrast in a different way. The color is the same but the sizes of the animals are very different. The lion looks down upon the lioness and is clearly bigger than her.

1. He uses a Pentax 67II with only two lenses.
2. Nick fell in love with the animals of East Africa and he knew the only way to express his love was through photography.
3. He wants to reveal the true personality of wild animals.
4. "You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in close."
